Attorney Suspended for Mishandling of Worker's Settlement Funds

A Louisiana attorney last week was suspended from the practice of law for the fourth time due to his mishandling of an injured workers’ settlement payment. Although the state Supreme Court found Daniel Becnel III had not acted with a dishonest motive, the court said his carelessness had the potential to cause actual harm to his client. That risk, coupled with his long history of discipline, warranted a suspension of one year and one day, the court said. Becnel had represented Tammy Rowell in a workers’ compensation case.
