Restaurant Closed Over Alleged Workers' Compensation Violations

Wednesday, February 1, 2017 | 0

Regulators have shuttered a West Hartford restaurant through a stop-work order have alleging it failed to cover employees with workers’ compensation, misclassified workers as independent contractors and understated or concealed its payroll.

Los Imperios also is under fire for violating town ordinances by selling liquor by the bottle, charging a cover fee and restricting patrons under the age of 21, the Hartford Courant reported.

Rodvald Jones, the attorney for the Peruvian restaurant, said the lack of workers’ compensation coverage was a “misstep with respect to insurance ... the coverage that Los Imperios is required to have, it did not meet the standard and it’s being addressed,” the newspaper reported.

The restaurant opened in September 2014 and began violating ordinances two months later, the newspaper reported. The ordinances apply to businesses classified as restaurants.
