Proportion of Payments for Medical, Indemnity Benefits Holds Steady

The Workers’ Compensation Insurance Rating Bureau of California reported that the proportion of total loss payments going to indemnity benefits and medical treatment was unchanged in 2023. Medical losses paid in 2023 were $4.7 billion, or 53% of total loss payments, the WCIRB reported Thursday. The $4.4 billion in medical losses in both 2022 and 2023 also accounted for 53% of total loss payments. Indemnity benefits paid in 2023 were $4.2 billion, or 47% of total loss payments.
