Florida authorities have charged a 71-year-old construction company owner with premium fraud after he allegedly underreported payroll by more than $1 million.
Everado Borettini, of Weston, near Miami, was charged with workers' compensation fraud and theft after he reported his company's payroll as less than $69,000, according to the state. EFC Construction Co.'s actual annual payroll was closer to $1.5 million, Florida's Office of Financial Regulation said.
The alleged misrepresentation saved the company about $95,000 in comp premiums, authorities said.
