Maryland’s Uninsured Employers Fund is asking lawmakers for permission to increase assessments levied against workers’ compensation awards and settlements to protect the solvency of the program.
The Uninsured Employers Fund provides benefits to people injured while working for illegally uninsured employers and to step in when a self-insured employer becomes insolvent. Fund expenditures have outpaced revenues during four of the last five fiscal years.
