The Workers Compensation Research Institute published a report documenting medical cost-containment strategies being used in all 50 state comp systems, the District of Columbia and by federal programs.
Medical cost containment became a focus of many comp systems in the early 1990s when the percentage of benefits paid for medical care started to grow faster than other claim costs, according to the report.
