The California Assembly unanimously passed bills that would require certain contractors to carry workers’ compensation coverage regardless of the number of people they employ and to mandate that brokers undergo training on how to identify and report suspected fraud.
The Assembly voted 70-0 on Thursday to pass SB 216 and 73-0 to pass SB 1242.
SB 216, by Sen. Bill Dodd, D-Napa, would mandate work comp coverage for asbestos abatement contractors; concrete contractors; heating, ventilation and air conditioning contractors; and tree service contractors.
