The Division of Workers' Compensation assessed audit penalties on two shops processing California claims in 2013 compared to five in 2012, but the total penalty amount increased 79% to $391,606 from $218,769, according to an audit report released Wednesday.
Acclamation Insurance Management Services in Santa Clarita was assessed $252,514 in penalties after DWC auditors found unpaid compensation of $41,428 on 18 claims. Berkley Specialty Underwriting Mangers in Irving, Texas, was assessed $139,092 for unpaid compensation totaling $37,226 on 21 claims.
