Legislation that would bar employers from requiring injured workers, including correctional officers, to pay for medical exams and testing passed the Ohio House two months ago but has seen little action in the Senate.
House Bill 81, sponsored by Rep. Rick Perales and 60 other Republicans and Democrats, would also clarify Ohio law on voluntary abandonment, in light of court rulings in the last few years.
The measure notes that an injured worker is due compensation unless he is “not working” or has lost wages for reasons unrelated to the workplace injury.
