Reform Group Tallies Lawyer-Lawmaker Outside Earnings

New York state legislators who are attorneys were paid between $3 million and $4.19 million for private legal work while they were in office in 2014 and averaged $130,000 to $182,000 in outside income each, the Lawsuit Reform Alliance said in a report released Wednesday. Personal injury attorneys accounted for 65% of the outside income earned by lawyer-legislators, between $207,000 and $271,000, the advocacy group said.
