The city of Topeka, Kansas, paid $66,600 to two law firms that defended it against workers' compensation claims last year, after deciding to outsource those services instead of using an in-house attorney to save costs, according to a report in the Topeka Capital-Journal.
The newspaper reported that outside counsel represented the city in 45 workers' compensation claims.
