L&I on Monday announced the state filed charges against the Monte Cristo Ballroom and its owner, Anthony Reeves. The complaint accuses Reeves of taking a $2.99 meal charge from more than 150 employees for each shift they worked between December 2016 and April 2019. In all, the department said the illegal deductions totaled more than $12,000.

The department said it negotiated a payment plan with Reeves that would have given him until October 2020 to pay all wages owed, but he never signed the agreement.

Meanwhile, the Everett Herald reports that Monte Cristo Ballroom owes L&I $21,000 for workers’ compensation coverage dating back to 2018. And the state Department of Revenue filed a tax warrant seeking $45,000.
