After seven years of trying, Chicago Inspector General Joseph Ferguson may finally be on the cusp of a deep dive into the city’s $100-million-per-year workers’ compensation program.
A report released May 16 by accounting firm Grant Thornton appears to invite a more detailed review. But the firm made clear that its “assessment” didn’t meet the criteria to be considered an audit. Rather, it was a professional review of the city’s comp program during the two-year period of 2017 to 2018.
