A U.S. Postal Service sorting center in Des Moines has been cited for two repeat and two serious violations by the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration, largely for putting workers at risk in case of an emergency.
Because it is a federal government-owned operation, the USPS cannot be fined, but OSHA still chastised the service for its lax attitude toward safety. It noted that it had cited the Postal Service for similar violations four times in the last five years at other locations in Alabama, Colorado, Iowa, Illinois and Texas.
