California Gov. Jerry Brown appointed Rosendo Peña to the 5th District Court of Appeal and Jim Humes to the 1st District Court of Appeal.If confirmed, Humes will be the first openly gay justice to serve on the California Court of Appeal and Peña will be the first Latino justice in the history of the 5th DCA.Humes, 53, of San Francisco, has served as executive secretary for legal affairs, administration and policy in Brown’s office since 2011.
