Laboratory to Be Told to Cease Requests for Genetic Testing of Injured Workers

The Louisiana Workers’ Compensation Advisory Council has voted to send a cease-and-desist notice to a genetic testing lab that asks doctors to consider the testing for certain injured workers they are treating. The notice will be sent to Insight Labs, which has been conducting genetic testing on behalf of workers’ comp third-party administrator Broadspire. The testing, known as pharmacogenetic or pharmacogenomic testing, is intended to determine how an injured worker metabolizes various drugs, based on their genetic makeup.
