CEO of Implant Distributor Gets 6 Months for Fraud

The former head of an implant distributor pleaded no contest to fraud on Thursday, ending what is believed to be the first prosecution of an individual for exploiting a loophole in California law that allowed for double payment on devices used in spinal fusions.The Santa Clara County District Attorney’s Office reported that Trudy Maurer, 68, chief executive officer of Implantium, was sentenced to six months in jail and fined $50,000.
