In response to a recent spike in deaths of workers in trenches, the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration has updated its National Emphasis Program on preventing trenching and excavation collapses.
The program will increase education and enforcement while inspectors record trenching and excavation inspections in a national reporting system. Each OSHA area office will develop outreach programs.
