The owner of the Brookdale Inn and Spa on California’s Central Coast pleaded no contest to charges of felony insurance fraud and failure to maintain workers’ compensation, according to a report by the Santa Cruz Sentinel.Sanjiv Kakkar, 51, will face less than one year in jail and a $10,000 fine when he is sentenced in October. He could also be ordered to pay restitution for false reporting of wage information which resulted in paying about $890,000 less in workers’ compensation premiums during a four-year period.As part of the plea agreement, prosecutors dropped charges again...
