Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan has appointed two new members to the state's Workers' Compensation Commission.

Allan Kittleman

One is Allan Kittleman, who this month lost his bid for a second term as Howard County executive, a position similar to that of mayor of a city.

Logan and Kittleman are both Republicans, and Kittleman was seen as a moderate in the Democratic-leaning county outside of Baltimore, according to the Baltimore Sun newspaper.

As county executive, Kittleman was paid about $183,560 a year. As workers' compensation commissioner, he will make $151,000.

Kittleman was previously a state senator who served on the workers' compensation oversight committee. He also practiced law for two decades and specialized in workers' compensation, the governor's office said.

Logan also appointed claimants' and disability attorney Howard Metz to the commission. Metz, of Frederick, Maryland, has been in practice for 25 years.

Metz and Kittleman will replace Patricia Adams and Jeffrey Herwig, commissioners who retired earlier this fall.
