An Island Lake manufacturing company is facing $71,000 in fines after inspectors with the Occupational Safety and Health Administration found that the company had bypassed safety devices which resulted in a worker suffering from serious injuries, according to a release from the administration.
The 32-year-old machinist working at Kemper Valve & Fittings was cleaning rust off a machine using sand paper when his arm was caught in the machine’s rotation, causing a number of broken bones after being pulled into an opening.
