WCRI: Medical Payment Decrease Exceeds Most Study States

Decreases in average medical payments per claim in Texas exceeded those in all but two states covered in a recent Workers Compensation Research Institute report. WCRI’s 24th edition of the CompScope Medical Benchmarks report said that of 17 states analyzed, only Indiana and Virginia saw a larger decrease in medical payments from 2019 to 2021. WCRI reported that medical payments have been stable in Texas since 2016 for claims with more than seven days of lost time at 12, 24 and 36 months of experience.
