Just as many miner advocates and claimants' attorneys predicted when the Kentucky Legislature passed House Bill 2 last year, very few doctors who meet the new requirements imposed by the bill are willing to evaluate black lung disease.
Just two, in fact, have signed up, according to a recent report from the Kentucky Department of Workers' Claims.
And those pulmonologists' reports in many cases have ruled against the claimants — and disagreed with the pneumoconiosis diagnoses from other physicians who looked at the same patients, according to the report.
