Thursday, January 27, 2022 | 0

Days away from work due to serious injuries decreased by 61% from 2019 to 2020, according to a new report from ISN Software Corp., despite an increase in the rate of serious injuries and fatalities.

The analysis from ISN showed that the three-year average for serious injuries and fatalities increased from 391 incidents per 100,000 workers in 2019 to 429 incidents in 2020.

A higher number of serious injuries and fatalities was observed during the summer months, with the greatest rate of incidents recorded in July with a three-year average of 587 monthly incidents.

The greatest number of fatalities occurred among contractors in the construction space, accounting for 48% of all deaths in 2020 and 42% of all serious injuries and fatalities, ISN found.

The leading cause of serious injuries and fatalities over the last three years was contact with an object or equipment, according to the report. Other common causes of incidents were falls, slips, trips and overexertion.
