The U.S. Food and Drug Administration has issued warning letters to two companies for allegedly selling unapproved, misbranded kratom products with unproven claims about their ability to treat opioid addiction and withdrawal symptoms.
The FDA sent the warnings to Cali Botanicals of Folsom, California, and Kratom NC of Wilmington, North Carolina, the agency announced last week.
The companies have claimed that the products may be used to treat pain and medical conditions like depression, anxiety and cancer, FDA said.
