Connecticut prosecutors say a state worker was not entitled to $4,292 in workers’ compensation benefits she received over a 16-month period because she failed to report outside income.
The Division of Criminal Justice said Elizabeth Torres, 58, was arrested on a warrant charging her with larceny in the first degree by defrauding a public community and fraudulent claim or receipt of benefits.
According to the arrest warrant affidavit, the investigation was initiated by a complaint from Gallagher Bassett Services, which administers the workers’ compensation insurance program for Connecticut state employees.
Prosecutors said Torres filed a claim for injuries she said she sustained working at a Department of Developmental Services group home in Newington. She allegedly worked during some point while collecting benefits but failed to report the income.
“As a result, Torres collected $4,292 in benefits to which she was not entitled from July 2016 to December 2017,” prosecutors said in a statement.
