Montana lawmakers on Wednesday tabled a bill that would have created a residual market program, citing overwhelming opposition from labor, management, regulators and the state-chartered workers’ compensation carrier as well as a near-total lack of support from the business community.
The Montana House Business and Labor Committee voted 18-1 to table House Bill 896, which effectively removes the bill from consideration for the remainder of the session. Rep. Nelly Nicol, R-Billings, who authored the bill, was the only person who voted against the motion to kill the measure.
