Construction Company Fined in Deadly Building Collapse

Wednesday, April 26, 2017 | 0

A Sioux Falls, South Dakota, construction company is facing federal fines of nearly $100,000 in connection with a building collapse that killed a worker in December.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration on Monday issued more citations for more than two dozen violations against Hultgren Construction, the Argus-Leader reported. An investigation specifically into the worker's death continues, OSHA said.

Hultgren Construction was remodeling the former Copper Lounge when the building collapsed, killing 24-year-old worker Ethan McMahon.

Command Center, a temporary labor agency that provided workers for the project, was also issued more than a dozen citations and faces $114,000 in fines.

An attorney for Command Center said the company plans to appeal OSHA’s findings. Hultgren Construction’s president told the Argus-Leader that the company was reviewing the OSHA documents.
