The California Department of Insurance announced that a Baldwin Park Unified School District worker who allegedly went shopping and traveled while saying her COVID-19 symptoms were so severe that she couldn’t work was charged with theft and insurance fraud.
Stephanie Medrano, 33, filed a work comp claim for occupational exposure to COVID-19. She reportedly told her employer that she self-quarantined from July 6, 2020, to Aug. 3, 2020, leaving the house just two times to buy medicine for her mother and sister who were also diagnosed with the disease.
