Ins. Division Schedules Hearing on Contractor Exemption

The South Dakota Division of Insurance scheduled a public hearing for May 18 to hear testimony on proposed rules to implement a bill allowing independent contractors to sign an affidavit stating they are exempt from workers' compensation coverage requirements. Gov. Dennis Daugaard on March 11 signed into law House Bill 1105, allowing an independent contractor who is not an employer or a general contractor and not covered by a workers' compensation policy to sign an affidavit of exempt status.
