A federal trial judge in Illinois on Tuesday granted preliminary approval to a settlement between the National Collegiate Athletic Association and a group of former college athletes to settle their claims for concussion-related injuries from their playing days.
The key components of the deal are the same as the proposal U.S. District Judge John Lee rejected in December 2014. The re-worked agreement retains the requirement that the NCAA to establish a $70 million fund to test current and former athletes for brain injuries.
