The average cost per workers' compensation claim has increased in the District of Columbia in recent years to a level higher than observed in surrounding jurisdictions, while medical costs remained lower than in neighboring areas, the National Council on Compensation Insurance reported.
NCCI held its annual state advisory forum in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday and reported costs per workers' compensation claim increased from $22,700 in policy year 1999 to $42,200 in policy year 2013 in the District. NCCI is projecting indemnity severity at $38,800 for accident year 2014.
