Advanced practice registered nurses must follow treatment guidelines when prescribing certain controlled substances to injured workers, under rules adopted by the Utah Labor Commission.
Lawmakers last year passed Senate Bill 56, allowing advanced practice registered nurses to prescribe Schedule II controlled substances without a consultation and referral plan. For the purposes of treating injured workers, the bill required these nurses to follow the state’s work comp chronic pain prescribing guidelines.
