The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has abruptly switched gears on its draft opioid prescribing guidelines, making the guidelines publicly available on Monday and opening a 30-day public comment period.
The CDC also wants the draft guidelines to be reviewed by a workgroup selected by the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control’s Board of Scientific Counselors. The workgroup, which the board will select during a public conference call on Jan. 7, will make recommendations on the guidelines to the board.
