The federal work safety agency fined a Jersey City hospital $174,593 in the wake of a worker's death, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced Tuesday.
OSHA cited Jersey City Medical Center for five violations of federal work safety standards springing from an inspection in June.
The agency began its inspection June 28 after being notified that a worker had been hospitalized after falling from a ladder while changing an overhead ballast in a light fixture. The worker had suffered an electrical shock, then fallen 6 feet to the ground.
