OSHA Cites Meat-Casing Plant for Fall Hazards, Lack of Fire Extinguishers

Trip-and-fall hazards and missing fire extinguishers led to $86,255 in proposed penalties against an Illinois meat-casing plant. The U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration issued citations to Viscofan USA Inc. for one repeated and one serious safety violation after a May inspection showed that workers were exposed to slip, trip and fall hazards in aisles and on equipment due to an accumulation of water.
