The Supreme Court of Georgia last week accepted an attorney’s voluntary surrender of his law license for misusing an injured worker’s settlement funds.
Richard H. Middleton Jr. had been a licensed lawyer since 1977. He admitted that he was co-counsel for a client who was injured in an automobile collision in the Savannah area in 2016.
Middleton filed a lawsuit on behalf of the client in Georgia state court, which he eventually settled for $100,000. Middleton placed the settlement in a bank account, pending resolution of the client's South Carolina workers' compensati...
