Edwards Signs Liability Protection Laws, Ends Death Benefits Remarriage Penalty

Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards has signed a slew of bills into law this week, including ones that would protect employers from liability lawsuits and another that would enhance workers' compensation death benefits. SB 517 ends the “remarriage penalty” for spouses of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. The weekly death benefits will now continue for life for the spouse, regardless of whether the spouse remarries.
