The Virginia Court of Appeals ruled that a grocery store worker’s widow could not pursue a civil remedy from his employer for his fatal alleged workplace exposure to COVID-19.
Ricky Taylor worked for Giant of Maryland LLC at a grocery store. In March 2020, Maryland Gov. Larry Hogan deemed retail grocery stores to be essential businesses, allowing them to continue to operate despite the COVID-19 pandemic that was expanding across the state.
Taylor contracted COVID-19 in April 2020 and died the following month from complications arising from the disease.
