ProAssurance Corp. has reported a net loss of $24.4 million for the fourth quarter, despite increasing profitability in its workers’ comp segment.
The net loss compares to net income of $17.3 million in the fourth quarter of 2017. For full year 2018, net profit was $47 million, down from $107 million in 2017.
The company said it faced several challenges last year, including a competitive insurance market, a developing loss environment in its medical professional liability line, further catastrophe losses at Lloyd’s and a volatile investment market.
