DOL Announces Guidance Change Targeting Employers That Put Profit Over Safety

The U.S. Department of Labor announced new workplace safety enforcement guidance that it said will make penalties more effective in stopping employers from repeatedly exposing workers to unsafe conditions. The department said regional administrators and area office directors for the Occupational Safety and Health Administration are now authorized to issue “instance-by-instance citations” for serious violations that support a citation for each instance of noncompliance.
