Private industry employers reported 2.8 million non-fatal injury and illness cases in 2017 — nearly 45,800 fewer compared to a year earlier, the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics reported on Thursday.
The rate of recordable injuries in 2017 was 2.8 per 100 full-time equivalent workers, compared to 2.9 in 2016 and 5.0 in 2003. Last year was the fifth year in a row that the figure has dropped.
The rate of injuries with days away from work remained steady last year, at 0.9 per 100 workers, the same as in 2015 and 2016.
