Uber Says AB 5 Doesn't Apply to Drivers; Lawsuit Asks Court to Force Compliance With Pending Law

On the same day the California Senate voted to send AB 5 to the governor, Uber said the bill won’t require it to reclassify its drivers, and a class action suit asking a federal court to order the ride-hailing firm to designate drivers as employees was filed in San Francisco. The Assembly on Wednesday voted 61-16 to concur with amendments Assemblywoman Lorena Gonzalez made to AB 5 while the measure was in the Senate.
