President Trump's trade war with China will soon have a major impact on the U.S. economy and, if history is any guide, workers' compensation may be the hardest-hit segment of the insurance industry, an economist said this week.
“Workers' compensation premium shrinkage would be measured in the billions as hundreds of billions in wages and salaries would be at risk,” Robert Hartwig, professor of finance at the University of South Carolina, told the National Council on Compensation Insurance's annual symposium this week in Orlando, Florida.
