OSHA Fines Company $54K After Worker Is Killed in Scrap-Metal Pit

A 50-year-old steelworker died in June after falling into a scrap-metal pit at the Plainfield, Illinois, processing facility where he worked.  A subsequent federal safety inspection resulted in fines of just under $54,000 for his employer, Coilplus Illinois Inc. In the early-morning hours of June 23, Carlos Rivera, of Joliet, was standing on a platform at Coilplus removing metal scrap from a scrap pit when the platform disconnected.
