Nexar, Black Car Fund Partner to Install Cameras

Friday, August 13, 2021 | 0

The New York Black Car Operators Injury Compensation Fund, which provides workers’ compensation for independent contractor black car operators, including rideshare drivers, is partnering with Nexar to install cameras in vehicles to help protect drivers from accidents or assault.

Nexar said in a statement that its dual-camera dashcams detect collisions, immediately notify the Black Car Fund and send a detailed reenactment of the crash within minutes. This will allow the fund to begin processing a workers’ compensation claim.

"The Black Car Fund was formed by a New York state statute over 20 years ago to provide workers' comp for independent drivers who otherwise wouldn't be insured for on-the-job injuries,'' Ira Goldstein, executive director of the fund, said in a statement. "Drivers are often unaware of their rights and the benefits available to them and may not know where to turn to if they are injured. Nexar's technology allows us to proactively reach out and support them when our help is most needed."

Nexar said the cameras also record inside of vehicles and capture assault on drivers.
