Minors injured while working illegally in Colorado would be allowed to sue their employers in tort while pursuing workers’ compensation benefits, under a bill the state House of Representatives recently passed.
The Colorado House on Monday voted 44-18 to pass HB 1196, by Rep. Sheila Lieder, D-Jefferson.
The bill would allow minors or their parents to pursue both workers’ compensation benefits and a civil complaint if injured when an employer intentionally requires a minor to work more hours than are allowed by law or if the minor was engaged in prohibited work.
