The California Senate passed a bill that would require the Contractors State License Board to monitor and report on violations of work comp coverage requirements.
The Senate on Wednesday voted 35-0 to pass SB 291, by Sen. Tim Grayson, D-Concord, which would also authorize new penalties for contractors that operate without comp coverage.
The bill would create a new fine of $10,000 for a sole-owner licensee that employed workers but didn’t have comp insurance. The penalty for using employees but not having comp coverage would be $20,000 for any partnership, corporation, limited liab...
