Second Injury Fund Eliminates Big Backlog of Refund Requests

While a number of states have struggled to keep their second-injury funds afloat and others have eliminated the funds altogether, Texas regulators have quietly found a way to eliminate a backlog of hundreds of refund requests while keeping their fund solvent. The Division of Workers' Compensation said Wednesday that the success is due to a combination of efforts: making refund requests completely paperless, new electronic forms that ask only for relevant information, and extra hands on deck to process the requests.
