CVS Pharmacy has agreed to pay $6.15 million to resolve allegations that it failed to follow prescription pricing procedures intended to prevent overcharges in the workers’ compensation system, the Massachusetts Attorney General’s Office announced.
The Attorney General’s Office claimed CVS billed and was paid for prescription drugs in excess of amounts allowed by state law. The pharmacy allegedly failed to review certain benchmarks, such as the federal upper limit for Medicare and the Massachusetts maximum allowable costs, when making pricing determinations.
